Red Splyndor Black Gum is a native deciduous tree with a strong central leader and pyramidal habit with upward sweeping branches. The lightly toothed and glossy dark green foliage turns various shade of red in fall. Though dioecious there are often perfect flowers as well, which are clusters a small non-showy greenish-white. Excellent source of nectar for pollinators. Flowers give way to blue-black berries in fall. Best grown in part sun and well-drained soils.

MAINTENANCE NEEDS: Low Maintenance. Scale, rust, canker, and leaf spots can be occasional problems. Can tolerate both standing water and some drought.
