Pond Cypress is a native conifer tree with a cylindrical crown when young and a flattened irregular crown when older with horizontal to upright branching. and its fissured bark on mature trees exposing attractive orange inner bark. The deciduous awl-shaped light green foliage are spirally arranged and turns orange-brown or gold in fall. Pond Cypress has more rounded root knees and grows at water margins instead of in the water. Grows best in full sun and moist to wet acidic soil.
